Last Updated: Jan 15, 2019
The indirect object of a verb is the thing on which the action of the verb is exerted indirectly. In the sentence, "John gives beggars money," "money" is the direct object, and "beggars" is the action of giving is performed, and so is the indirect object. The indirect object comes before the direct object in a sentence.
